Glycogen Recovery
1.  How important is protein right after training?
Protein intake likely spares muscle breakdown (see Protein #2 and Article #1).  I
recommend that protein intake be kept in balance with carbohydrate and fat during
recovery.  You need more protein to recover, but you need more carbohydrate and fat
as well.  It is important to take in calories after training, but there is no documented
advantage to raising the percentage of protein or manipulating ratios with a
micrometer.  Your energies are much better spent making sure that you have
rehydrated to your normal body weight after training so that your food intake can
properly make it to the muscles.  Water has a million times greater impact on your
recovery than a few branched-chain amino acids.
